Here is another question that I get fairly often and was asked most recently during the Q +A following the screening of First Clue at the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival.
Where did I find such a diverse group of people to interview for First Clue? The answer is that we set up an interview booth in Dolores Park in San Francisco on Saturday, June 29, 2013. It was Pride Weekend in the city and that meant hundreds of women would be gathering in the park for music and revelry throughout the day, culminating with the Dyke March that winds through the Mission and into the Castro.
We arrived at 6:00 am to set up the shoot and to make sure everything was ready to go when the ladies began to arrive in the park around 11:00 am. We shot interviews through out the day and wrapped at 5:00 pm. During that time we interviewed 43 women and captured five hours of footage. The final version of the film was edited down to six minutes and features 21 storytellers.
